Students and staff at BASCS Elementary celebrated Veterans Day today by holding an assembly to honor their special guests, and all veterans across the country, for the sacrifices that they made for the freedom that we all have today. As our assembly opened, all students and staff stood proud as everyone said the Pledge of Allegiance and listened to our National Anthem. Our first honored guest included Mr. Jackson Rivera, who is a Captain in the Army National Guard, and father of one of our third grade students, who spoke to the students about some of his experiences with being in the military. We were also excited to welcome back Ms. Jessica Hunter, our Security Officer who was with us last year at Bergen Elementary, who is now at our Passaic Primary School. Sargent Hunter, a currently serving Army National Guardsman, enjoyed demonstrating all of her gear to the students as they watched her pull out and explain its’ importance and use. We were also happy to welcome Mr. Scott Wolf, Mrs. Nasse’s father, who spoke to the students about his family history and his father who was a soldier in World War II. We closed our assembly with our third grade students who gathered to sing a patriotic song, which was led by Ms. Miller, our Music teacher. The students did a fantastic job as the song gave everyone a sense of pride for our country and all of the veterans that we were honoring today. We would like to say Happy Veterans Day to all Veterans for their service and say thank you for keeping us safe.
